Copyright Agreement and Policy
Beautynet is a division of Salon Communications Inc. (SCI), publishers of Salon magazine and Elevate magazine and producers of the Contessas or The Canadian Hairstylist of the Year Awards.
Beautynet respects the intellectual property rights of others and expects its website visitors to do the same. Beautynet does not claim ownership rights in any one or is displayed on related sites or products. Copyright ownership rights of the photographs published at Beautynet remain with the publishing artists or their legal successor(s) and are protected by international copyright laws.
Photographs or other creative work posted on Beautynet may be judged worthy to reproduce and publish in other media such as Stunning Hair or other Beautynet and SCI activities. In this regard, artists posting on Beautynet hereby grant Beautynet and SCI non-exclusive, royalty-free license to reproduce, distribute, re-format, store and prepare derivative works based on and publicly display and perform such photographs. This includes all respective rights, titles and interests in all images and submissions, including all applicable copyrights.
By posting or submitting the work the artist and/or work itself may become part of a Beautynet competition. The artist hereby waives the right to make any claims against the judges or the competition, the sponsors, the organizers or any group that endorses the competition or assists in its conduct.
The Beautynet member understands the decision of the judges is final and that all images become the non-exclusive property of Salon Communications Inc. and Beautynet without payment of any compensation and without restriction as to date, location or manner of use, provided such relates in any way to legitimate SCI activities or those of affiliated organizations. Neither Beautynet nor SCI retain any rights to resell the work except that it may be no more than 1/10th part of a legitimate SCI collection or magazine (on-line or otherwise). It is understood by posting on Beautynet the member has secured and has proof of release forms authorized by the photographer(s), makeup artist(s), model(s) and other parties of interest involved in the production of each submission.
Aside from the prior description distribution, publicly displaying or the preparing of derivative works based on any one or more of the photographs published at Beautynet without the express written consent of the of the appropriate owner of copyrights in such works is strictly prohibited. Beautynet is committed to safeguarding the privacy of the publishing artists. Therefore, any party seeking such approval can contact us via our Contact links on this site. We will forward their request to the appropriate copyright owner, requesting them to directly contact those seeking approval. Your e-mail should state “Copyright Usage Request” in the subject line and should describe the photograph you seek usage for, the intended use, a clear description of the medium in which the publication will run and all other relevant details. Should you not be contacted subsequent to submitting such a request, approval is deemed to be denied.

Beautynet is not responsible or liable for the availability or accuracy of such websites or resources; or the Content, products or services on or available from such websites or resources.
